The Full Story

Extreme E is a radical new racing series, which will see electric SUVs competing in extreme environments around the world. The five-race global voyage highlights the impact of climate change on some of the world’s most fragile ecosystems and promotes the adoption of electric vehicles to help preserve the environment and protect the planet.

With 30 percent of the planet’s CO2 emissions coming from transport, Extreme E exists to showcase the performance of electric vehicles. The competition uses a powerful mix of thrilling sports action, scientific education and storytelling to accelerate electric adoption to reduce CO2 emissions and encourage a more sustainable lifestyle.

The aim is to leave only a positive legacy behind, dependent on local needs. This initiative calls on sporting organisations to acknowledge the contribution of the sports sector to climate change and our responsibility to strive towards climate neutrality and a safer planet.

Led by Michael Andretti, Andretti Autosport holds nearly two decades of accolades across various disciplines of motorsport, including five Indianapolis 500 victories and four INDYCAR SERIES championships. The team has also been active as a competitor in the ABB Formula E Championship since the first season, with multiple racing victories and is now competing under the BMWi Andretti Motorsport banner.

United Autosports is one of the largest motorsport teams in the UK and competes globally in different sports prototype categories across the world. Based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK, the company is co-owned by McLaren CEO Zak Brown and former racing driver Richard Dean. The team has raced in a number of different championships, with a vast range of cars and drivers including Fernando Alonso, Juan Pablo Montoya, Lando Norris and Paul Di Resta.

Peter Hall, CEO and Founder, Merchant Tailor:

"We are delighted and privileged to be aligned with two great names in motorsport, Andretti Autosport and United Autosports. The partnership with Andretti United on the Extreme E platform, confronting and tackling environmental issues, perfectly aligns with our values at Merchant Tailor, where sustainable choices come first. We look forward to the forthcoming 2021 season, bringing a full collection of sustainably made team wear and merchandise that captures the brand’s edge but also speaks to our shared values."

Merchant Tailor's partnership with Andretti United Extreme E is to demonstrate and deliver a complete collection or team wear made from sustainable, recycled sources.

The partnership with Merchant Tailor will focus on sustainable clothing production as all the team’s clothing will be crafted from recycled ocean plastic and organic cotton.

The five-race global voyage, which highlights the impact of climate change on some of the world’s most fragile ecosystems and promotes the adoption of electric vehicles to help preserve the environment and protect the planet, will begin in Saudi Arabia, before travelling to Senegal, Greenland, Brazil and Patagonia.

The Andretti United Extreme E team has been created by two powerhouses in motorsport – Andretti Autosport and United Autosports, who will combine their talent and experience to take on the world of electric racing in 2021.
